Elle King makes a glorious return to the rollicking sound of her breakout anthem, “Ex’s & Oh’s,” on her sassy new single, “Shame.” The 29-year-old took the scene by a storm when she rolled up back in 2015. Her latest is another bold and brassy production with appropriately rebellious lyrics. Co-written and produced by Tim Pagnotta, it offers a first hint about the sonic direction of her sophomore LP. All things considered, that should make you veryexcited. “Trouble, trouble’s what you need. That’s what you get in getting me,” she confidently declares over a bone-rattling instrumental. Later the firebrand sparks a revolution. “I’m a fire, just to spark under your halo. Rolling thunder, I’m high up. Ain’t got no shame, no.”
Love Stuff is the debut album from U.S. Singer Elle King and follows her. Jacknife Lee, Eg White, and Jeff Bhasker, King delivers a selection of blues- and rock. Of course, the chorus is another perfect earworm that will be stuck in your head. “From the bottom of your soul… Shame, shame, shame, shame, Mama doesn’t know, ooh. Every night you go. Shame, shame, shame, shame,” she belts. The accompanying video is an equally bold affair. In it, she and a team of tracksuit-wearing followers take over a vintage home for a performance. As her cult-like audience looks on and occasionally partakes in the performance, the brightly dressed siren calls all the shots. In the process, she pulls of the perfect heist. Before things come to a close, the devilish diva walks out with two suitcases full of cash and blows up a car in the front drive. All in a day’s work.
I’m crossing my fingers that “Shame” means the queen of topless bass playing is gearing up to drop a new album in the coming months. It has been more than three years since she took the world by a storm with her debut, Love Stuff. Last year she graced us with her pop-driven “Wild Love,” but a true comeback would be greatly appreciated at this point. Give her catchy new single a listen and check out the video below.
